Twitter Now Reducing Some Tweets To 117 Characters

Starting Wednesday, Twitter is reducing any tweet sent with a URL to 118 characters, or 117 for https links.

Well, this seems conterproductive. Why couldn’t they just add a couple of characters to the maximum length of a tweet? If the goal is to increase commentary and engagement, that’s the way I’d go.
